Join us in Busan for an INC-5 side event that explores financing solutions for Indonesia, which has been hard hit by the global plastic pollution crisis.
Indonesia generates approximately 7.8 million tons of plastic waste annually, and nearly 5 million tons goes uncollected, or is disposed of in open dumpsites or improperly managed landfills every year. Rural areas generate two-thirds of mismanaged plastic waste in Indonesia, due to very limited waste collection rates and lack of recycling facilities.
Indonesia’s National Plastic Action Partnership, meanwhile, estimates the country needs around $18 billion in capital investment to reduce marine plastic leakage by 70 percent by 2025 and achieve a circular economy for plastic by 2040. Despite ambitious national commitments, ambiguity surrounding national policies on plastic waste management has contributed to reduced investment in Indonesia’s waste management infrastructure.
Join a panel of experts for this important discussion on plastic policy developments in Indonesia, and the role EPR, plastic credits and other innovative financing tools can play in scaling the waste management sector in Indonesia and in other emerging markets.
Registrants will also get an early preview of the Plastic Recovery Catalyst Program which offers a combination of technical assistance, zero interest loans and plastic credits to help scale Indonesia's recycling sector, created by SecondMuse Capital in partnership with PCX Markets and PCX Solutions.
